Yugadi

Yugadi is the Kannada New Year celebrated in late March or in early April. The festival is celebrated all over the state with great enthusiasm. On this day the dinner is specially prepared and it starts with jaggery and neem leaves. This signifies the real celebration of life which is a bundle of joys or sorrows.

Karaga

This festival is celebrated at Darmaraya Temple in Bangalore. The festival falls on the full moon day of Chaitra, the first month of Hindu calendar. The festival is celebrated in honour of Draupadi, the spouse of Pandavas, the religious characters of the great Hindu epic Mahabharatha.

Banashankari Temple Fair

The temple fair is celebrated in the month of January or February at Badami in Karnataka. This 20 day festival combines religious rites with the excitement of a fun fair. An annual cattle fair specializing in white bulls is held at the same time.

Hoysala Mahotsava

Celebrated in the month of March, Hoysala Mahotsava unfolds the great kannada culture with special importance on music and dance. The festival is celebrated at the temple located in Belur and Halebid.

Rajyotsava Day

The Rajyotsava Day is celebrated on the 1st of November every year. This day marks the formation of the Karnataka State. Cultural events are organized in various places depicting the glorious history of the state.

Royal Dasara

The grand festival is celebrated in Mysore. The 10 day festival known as Dussehra in North India celebrates the victory of Goddess Durga over the buffalo demon Mahisashura. Click here for more…
